Everything you might want to know about your Key West bicycle rental
What do I need to rent a bicycle in Key West?
The primary renter must be at least 18 years old, provide a credit card, and complete our electronic rental waiver. No security deposit is required.
We offer a variety of children’s bike attachments, subject to availability. An adult age 18 or older must complete the waiver and rental agreement for any children’s equipment. You can view current availability and reserve children’s attachments through our FareHarbor booking page.
How far can I ride a Flux e-bike, and do I need to charge it during my rental?
A fully charged Flux e-bike battery typically provides about 40–50 miles of range. Actual range varies based on factors such as rider weight, throttle-only use versus pedal assist, weather conditions, terrain, and riding style.
For most rentals lasting one or two days, the fully charged battery is usually sufficient and a charger is not needed. For rentals longer than two days, we recommend taking the charger we provide so you can recharge as needed.
If your e-bike battery runs low, please contact us. We can arrange a charger drop-off or battery swap, depending on the most convenient option at the time.
Can you deliver and pick up my rental bike or e-bike?
Yes. Free bicycle delivery and pickup are included with your rental—there are no delivery fees. We deliver throughout Key West and to Stock Island, but generally do not deliver beyond Stock Island.
Same-day delivery is available, subject to availability and daily demand. Typical delivery time is about 30 minutes, though timing may vary during busy periods. Larger group deliveries may take slightly longer.
We deliver to hotels, guest houses, vacation rentals, locations near Key West International Airport, and military bases. We cannot deliver inside the airport or to the cruise port.
What types of bicycles do you offer?
Bone Island Rentals offers standard cruiser bikes and Flux electric bikes. Cruiser bikes are a simple, comfortable option for exploring Key West at your own pace, while Flux e-bikes provide pedal assistance for guests who want extra help getting around the island.
Children’s bike attachments are available in limited quantities and can be reserved based on availability through our FareHarbor booking page. If you need a kids’ bike, trailer, tug-a-long, tricycle, or sports cruiser, Island Safari Rentals—our sister company—offers those additional options. Island Safari’s published selection includes kids’ bikes, trailers, tug-a-longs, tricycles, and sports cruisers.
Do I need to make a reservation for a bike or e-bike rental?
Walk-ins are always welcome, subject to availability. However, we recommend reserving in advance during peak travel periods and for larger groups, especially when you need specialty equipment or a specific bike type beyond a standard cruiser.
The easiest way to reserve is through our online booking site. Same-day rentals and delivery may be available, but please call us first for the most accurate delivery-time estimate.
How do I return my bike or e-bike, and what if I need to extend my rental?
Return options depend on how you received your rental. If you picked up your bike or e-bike from one of our locations, you can generally return it to that same location, including after hours. If we delivered it to your hotel or vacation rental, we can usually arrange pickup there; return instructions and pickup details must be confirmed with our team at delivery.
If you need more time, please contact us at least one hour before your scheduled return time to request an extension. Extensions are typically easier to arrange during slower periods, but they are subject to availability and are not guaranteed during peak seasons—especially holidays. Contact us as early as possible if you expect to need an extension.
Late returns are evaluated based on how long the equipment is kept beyond the scheduled return time, and additional charges may apply. For long-term e-bike rentals, please return the supplied charger with the e-bike.
What is included with my bicycle rental?
Every bicycle rental includes a lock, front and rear lights, and a basket. Helmets are available upon request—please let us know before pickup or delivery if you would like one.
Flux e-bikes are provided fully charged. For long-term e-bike rentals, we also provide a charger so you can recharge the battery as needed during your stay.
Where can I park my rental bike or e-bike?
Key West is very bicycle-friendly, with bike racks located throughout the island. Please lock your bike or e-bike to a secure, designated bicycle rack whenever possible.
Do not lock bicycles to docks. Dockmasters may remove improperly parked or secured bikes without notice. Although Key West is generally safe, bikes should always be locked securely when unattended to help prevent theft or tampering.
Guests are responsible for keeping the rental bicycle and its equipment secure during the rental, including locks, keys, chargers, and other accessories. Charges may apply for lost keys, locks, equipment, or preventable loss or damage.
What should I do if my bike or e-bike has a flat tire, mechanical issue, or battery problem?
If you have a flat tire, mechanical issue, or e-bike battery problem, contact Bone Island Rentals immediately at (305) 849-5153. During regular service hours, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, we will help troubleshoot the issue and arrange a bicycle or e-bike swap when appropriate.
After-hours issues will be handled the following day. If you cannot use the bike after hours, lock it securely in a safe location and contact us as soon as possible. Do not attempt to repair the bike or e-bike yourself.
Where can I ride a rental bike or e-bike in Key West?
Key West is easy to explore by bicycle or e-bike. You may ride throughout Key West and travel to Stock Island. We do not recommend riding beyond Stock Island, because our roadside assistance area ends there. The bridges farther into the Florida Keys can have debris and broken glass from road traffic; if you get a flat beyond our service area, you may need to arrange your own repair or transport the bike back to Key West.
Bicycles are permitted on local military bases for guests authorized to enter, but a helmet is required while riding on base. Please request a helmet in advance so we can provide one.
Always obey traffic laws, posted signs, and local bicycle regulations. E-bikes and motorized scooters are not permitted on Key West sidewalks; sidewalks are reserved for pedestrians and non-electric bicycles.
What is your cancellation and refund policy for bike and e-bike rentals?
You may cancel your bike or e-bike rental for a full refund when you request cancellation at least 48 hours before the scheduled rental start time. There is no cancellation fee.
We do not issue refunds for no-shows. For cancellations made within 48 hours of the rental start time, we can provide store credit that may be used toward a future rental or another Bone Island Rentals product or service.
Reservations remain active during normal rainy weather. Cancellations or refunds due to weather are available only when an official statewide hurricane warning is in effect. If your plans change, we are happy to modify your reservation—including rental dates, delivery location, and other booking details—subject to availability. Bone Island’s public site also advertises free booking cancellation up to 48 hours.
